The registered/certified medical assistant is a member of a health care team, which includes, a provider, a behavioral health consultant, a licensed practice nurse (LPN), a medical assistant (MA) ,a care coordinator, and a patient service representative (PSR) that have been assigned a panel of patients. The MA position requires the ability to adapt to change as needed. This position requires maintaining patient confidentiality at all times while working with clinic providers and personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of KTCH. The MA must possess great customer service skills as demonstrated by greeting patients and visitors pleasantly and effectively, should be able to provide clear instructions and show effective time management. Must maintain education requirements to sustain certification and attend continued education as required by supervisor, state or federal guidelines.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Phlebotomist: Under the supervision of a physician/RN/NP/PA/Director of Clinical Services:
*Properly identify patient and verifies provider's orders prior to blood draw or other
*Assures lab requisition contains ICD-9 code and checks with nurse/provider as needed.
*Imports labs daily from Labcorp and reconciles against lab manifest to insure all results are
*Accurately draws blood samples, labels specimens, and thoroughly completes lab requisition.
*Completes ABN form when needed for Medicare patients and has patient's sign when appropriate.
*Keeps up to date with phlebotomy procedures and what specimen container is required for each
*Venous and capillary samples are obtained with minimal trauma to patient.
*Observes Universal Precautions.
*Maintains clean lab area, and stocks appropriately.
*Maintains any appropriate logs or manifests, assuring all labs drawn or tests performed are
received in a timely manner, referring all abnormal stats to the appropriate nurse/provider.
*Performs laboratory tests including but not limited to urinalysis dipstick, urine pregnancy
tests, and hematocrits.
*Checks nursing line multiple times per day, filling out phone message form, returning calls
as needed for clarification, and giving paperwork to Medical Records Clerk/nursing staff as needed.
*Monitor and log refrigerator temperatures daily in lab area.

Registered/Certified Medical Assistant: Under the supervision of a physician:
*Correctly assesses patient's vital signs, anthropometric measurements, and charts them accurately.
*Accurately obtains medical/social/family /medication history including over the counter medications and allergies/reactions to medications. Also assists provider in assessing a patient's progress toward their goals and barriers that may be obstacles to achieving their goals.
*Obtains consent forms as needed to obtain medical records from outside providers.
*Performs laboratory tests including but not limited to urinalysis dipstick, urine pregnancy tests, and hematocrits.
*Obtains samples for lab tests through venipuncture.
*Assists physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with specialized procedures.

*Monitors medical supplies and stock medications, stock treatment rooms, and orders supplies to maintain
supply levels.
*Triages patient phone calls for minor health problems and refers complicated illness to nurse practitioners, and
*Accurately performs a variety of testing, including but not limited to audiometry, vision testing, peak flow and
lung function tests, EKGs.
*Safely operates centrifuges and autoclave.
*Monitors and logs refrigerator temperatures daily.
*Logs all laboratory testing manually or electronically as needed, reviews laboratory results when returned from
outside labs, checks them off as received, and refers all abnormal results to the correct provider.
*Accurately administers and charts medications orally or by intramuscular or intradermal injections to patients
through the life span.
*Completes pre-visit planning on all patients scheduled to be seen by their respective care team including a
review of the medical chart to insure that all lab tests, diagnostic studies and specialty reports have been
received in advance of the patient's scheduled appointment.
*Follows standing orders as defined by the Chief Medical Officer including prescription refills.

Minimum Qualifications:
Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
Possess Registered or Certified Medical Assistant Certificate in Missouri or have the 5 years
educational, work or military experience necessary to complete certification.
Possess current CPR certification
Produce documentation of appropriate phlebotomy skills.
Possess basic keyboard skills and computer knowledge.
Bilingual abilities encouraged.
Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency and efficiency from approved training program or documented
Must be able to see, hear, read, write, kneel, stand, sit and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to handle stressful situations.
Possess cognitive skills necessary to understand medical terminology.
Maintain professional appearance and attitude at all times.
